Do you want to learn how to write an e-book for beginners? In this video, I’m going to show you how to write an e-book for beginners in a step-by-step format so you know the steps to self-publish your book online.

Hello, this is Stephanie Rodnez, Founder and CEO of Godlywood Girl and creator of Godlywoodgirl Author Toolkit. My purpose in life is to connect you with the resources you need to achieve your purpose in life. In line with this mission here at Godlywood Girl, make sure you click the link in the description box below to get the Author Toolkit before it is too late. You don’t want to miss it, trust me. If you want to learn how to write and self-publish your book as a beginner, grab a pen and paper and let us dive in.

Step 1: Discover Your Niche

So, step one of how to write an e-book as a beginner is to discover your niche. A niche just refers to the segment of the market that you are serving with your e-book. There’s this great saying in sales: “If you market to everybody, you sell to nobody.” Every single audience needs a different marketing message to convey the solution that you are providing to them. You need to be clear on the niche you are serving with your books. This is because that is the only way to create a book that solves the problem that they have.

So, get clear on the niche that you are serving. Are you in the self-development niche? Are you in the fitness niche? Are you in the business development niche? Are you a life coach, a dating coach or are you a financial advisor? What niche are you serving with your book?

Step 2: Do Your Market Research

The second step is to find out what people are looking for where your book is concerned. You would not want to write a book that is based on your guts and instincts. I know that as an author, we want to write our own stories a lot of the time. However, every book needs to be a clear solution to a clear problem, much like how every business needs to be a clear solution to a clear problem.

We cannot know the clear solution unless we know what the clear problem is. That is what market research is for. Market research allows you to discover what people are looking for and the solution they need to solve these problems. Make sure you use your market research to discover the exact solution people are looking for. If you need help doing this, get into the Godlywoodgirl School of Business. I show you how to do market research for free, using resources to discover what people are looking for.

Step 3: Create Your Outline

The third step is to create your outline. Having done your market research and being armed with the solution that people want, you are going to create an outline that gives them that solution. Here is a rule of thumb that I like to use especially for a self-help e-book: you should include your testimony within the solution that you give.

As an example, I wrote a book called “The War of Purpose” and the solution that I gave my readers is that: I help you achieve your God-given purpose. As I taught the solution which ended up being the 7 P’s of Purpose, I ended up sharing my testimony of how I learned that solution and how I added it to my life to get results. This is how you can add your testimony and your story to help somebody apply a self-development technique that you have created.

This is going to make you unique from all the other self-help books out there because no one has your story. Nobody has your experiences. As such, I do recommend creating your outline in a way that solves the problem you discovered with your market research as well as integrating your testimony into it as well.

Step 4: Write the First Draft

Once you have written your outline, it is time to write the first draft. A lot of people will just start writing a book without having an outline. That is the quickest way to get overwhelmed, discouraged as well as a writer’s block. That is why I recommend having your outline done before you start writing your book. Once you have your outline done, you know exactly what goes into every chapter and you can just bring that bad boy out.

In the Godlywoodgirl Author Toolkit, I show you how with my step-by-step, rapidly fast system, I write books within a few hours. I’ve written a book in 6 hours and even in as little as 2 hours using this rapidly fast system. So, get into the Godlywoodgirl Author Toolkit and I can show you that system so you can see how to turn your outline into the first draft of your book.

Step 5: Copyedit Your Book

The fifth step is to copyedit your book. When I started as an author, I had this bad habit of not copyediting my book. I would finish my first draft and immediately move to publish. Then after painstakingly designing and putting everything together, I discovered mistakes everywhere. This meant I had to start everything again. It was so frustrating.

I recommend that you go ahead and copyedit your book before you design it into the final book. I know designing your book into its final form is very fun just as copyediting your book is equally boring if you are me. For me, I cannot stand copyediting. As such, I try to avoid it at all costs but trust me, you are going to be thankful that you spent time copyediting your book before publishing it. You can always hire a copyeditor on Fiverr.com or Upwork.com at a reasonable price. They will do quality work for you.

Step 6: Choose Your Book Printer

Once your book is copyedited, it becomes easier to publish it. The first thing to do is to choose your printer. There are many different print-on-demand book companies online. They do not print your book until you have sold a book. That is what print-on-demand means. With print-on-demand, you do not spend money unless you make money. That is how I print my books here at Godlywoodgirl. I do not have boxes and boxes of inventory.

When someone purchases from me, I go to my print-on-demand book printing company and I order it. They, in turn, have it shipped directly to my customer. That is how I run my business. That is how I end up not having to ever touch an inventory and I love this arrangement. It is a blessing to be an entrepreneur in 2020. This is because you could not do this back in the day. So, choose your print-on-demand company but keep in mind that every printer is different.

Again, it is not advisable to design your book before taking it to your printer. That is putting the cart before the horse. Choose the printer, then design your book based on their specification. Every book printer demands different specifications. It is just what it is. First, choose your printer and get their template or outline. Every reputable book printer will have a design template for you. They will tell you what specifications they need. Otherwise, they will not know how to print your book correctly.

So, choose your print-on-demand print company, get their specifications, and design your book accordingly. If you don’t have any resources for print-on-demand book printing companies, get the Godlywoodgirl Author Toolkit and I will show you how to use two of my favorite book printers. I love them and you will love them as well.

Step 7: Format Your Book and Design It According to the Right Specifications

Now that you have chosen your print-on-demand company, you are going to format your book according to that company’s specifications. You need to follow the specifications very carefully. I was teaching somebody how to use one of my favorite print-on-demand book company. For some reason, she chose to do her own thing and sent her stuff to the printer. For the record, it did not print well. They give you their specifications for a reason, follow it. They will tell you where the trim is, where the outline is, what the size is supposed to be, among other such prerequisites. Do not go out of your way to do what you like. It doesn’t work that way.

If you do not want to do it yourself, you can hire a book designer on Fiverr.com or Upwork.com for a really good price. My husband just had his book of 75 pages designed on Fiverr for $110. It was an amazing deal and the person did an excellent job.

Just make sure you give them the specifications of the printer. Do not let them guess, give them the specs from the printer and ask them to model it accordingly.

Step 8: Order a Proof of Your Book

The eighth step is to order a proof of your book. Once you have formatted your book, upload both the interior and exterior files to the print-on-demand book printing company and order a proof. Every print-on-demand company is different. As such, you would want to ensure that that print-on-demand company gives you quality books. If the book does not get printed well, people are going to look at you, not your printer. Reputation is very important online so, order a proof of the book and make sure you like it. If it is not up to standards, move on to the next print-on-demand company. If you are pleased with the result, excellent, you have a book printer.

Step 9: Publish Your Book

Step nine is to go ahead and publish your book. This merely means you make it available for sale. The technical definition for publishing is to just make it available for sale. It means that people can go and purchase it outside of you calling them on the phone.

I recommend that you make it available on your website to maximize profit. You can also list it for sale on Amazon though you will not be getting the contact email of your customer. Again, once they purchase a book, Amazon takes a cut. You can also put it up for sale on Goodreads as well as the different places where you can list your book for sale.

Step 10: Market Your Book

On publishing your book, the final step is to do marketing and promotions. It is very important to know that any online business, be it Christian or otherwise, needs to be marketed to get sales. There is no shortcut, no guesswork, and no magic pill. We have to do the marketing to get sales for your business.

So, it is imperative that you design a marketing and promoting strategy for your book. Don’t just hope that your book is going to get sold out. Get out and get strategic about how you are going to get the market for your book. If you need help with marketing, get into the Godlywoodgirl School of Business where I show you how to do Instagram, Facebook influencer marketing, Blogging, YouTube marketing, twitter marketing, girl the whole nine. Just get into the School of Business and check out the Marketing and Traffic Toolkit and design your marketing strategy.

ABOUT GODLYWOOD GIRL

Hey sis! It's your girl Stephanie Rodnez, founder & CEO of Godlywood Girl, and I want to welcome you to the Godlywood Girl sisterhood. If you're a woman who loves the Lord and wants to live His greatest purpose for your life as a Christian entrepreneur, then I created this website especially for you.

I started Godlywood Girl in 2013 as a way to help myself heal from the heartache and trauma of failing at my first business. You see, I was a filmmaker creating movies for Christian youth groups, but a series of bad decisions and mismanagement led to me almost having to declare bankruptcy on my first business.

For two years I sat in depression from the failure of that business, until one day, a video by Dr. ET Thomas inspired me to get back up and step into my purpose again. As a result, I got back to my God-given purpose as a Christian entrepreneur, and Godlywood Girl was born. My goal with Godlywood Girl is to connect you with the resources you need to achieve your greatest purpose for Christ as a Christian entrepreneur.

Whether you're just getting started on your journey, or you're a seasoned purposepreneur in the biz, I want to welcome you to the Godlywood Girl sisterhood. You are my sister, and I can't wait to connect with you online.

xox,

Stephanie (Godlywood Girl) Rodnez
