Hey, it's your girl Stephanie Rodnez; Founder and CEO of Godlywoodgirl, Creator of the Godlywoodgirl School of Business. Step 1: Identify Your Niche
The very first step is to identify the niche that you are purposed to create t- shirts for. The online dictionary online defines niche as product services or interests that appeal to a small specialized section of the population. So this is the segment of the buying population that you are creating shirts for. There is a saying in marketing that: “if you market to everybody, you'll sell to nobody”. This is because the same marketing message that will convince a young mother who just had a baby to buy a fitness t- shirt is a completely different marketing message than what will convince an NFL player who was looking to bulk up before he gets back to a season and you want to sell a fitness shirt to him. They're completely different audiences in the same industry.
So you want to identify who God purpose you to serve with your T shirts. What's her name? What's her age? What's her demographics are psychographics? What are her behaviors, her values her belief system? What are her interests, her career, and her habits? Did she graduate from college? Is she is she somebody who's pursuing a Master's? What is her income? What is her monthly budget that she can spend on buying t shirts? You need to be very, very particular on the niche that you t- shirts are meant to serve. And please keep in mind that when you're identifying your niche, the segment of the population that you're going to be creating your shirts for. You ought to make sure this has to do with your God given purpose. You always want to align everything that you do, from your career, ministry, business, everything, you want to align it with the way God purposed you to do it.
Remember, as Christian entrepreneurs, we are here to represent what it would look like if Jesus was a Christian entrepreneur. We are here to share the gospel of Christ to those who don't know yet do our business. So we always want to make sure we are doing things the way God purpose us to do it. Otherwise, it's going feel really awkward and icky. And we're not gonna want to work on our business. I'm telling you this from experience because I once built a business where I was teaching people fitness. I'm not a fitness coach, by the way. I like to work out now Praise Jesus, but my husband's a fitness trainer, not me. And I thought that because it was such a huge segment. Oh, no problem. I'll create this business serving people who like working out but I didn't like serving those people. I am purposed to serve people who want to live their God given purpose. That's who I am purposed to serve. My husband’s purpose is to serve people in the fitness niche.
So I want to make sure that you are not just creating a niche or identifying a nice that's a hot market and all so when people are buying these. No, make sure it was aligned with your God given purpose how God purpose you to be a Christian entrepreneur. Email Marketing
Once you've identified your niche, the second step is to build an email list of people who are interested in that niche. Notice I did not say start your Christian t- shirt business. When a lot of us are creating products or a business online, we focus on creating the product first or the service first, but we then have no audience to sell it to. So my goal in 2020 is to empower as many women of Christ as possible to focus on building her audience first, and then creating products for that audience. So step number two focuses on building your audience. It is an email list. Now I know you're probably thinking: “Well, why not just build my audience on YouTube or on Instagram or on Facebook”? Well, the problem is that if you use an app to build your audience, then you are relying on that app to let you talk to your audience when you have a promotion or a sale.
For example, last year, my YouTube channel accidentally got deleted. Praise God. YouTube was amazing and restored it within two days. Thank you, Jesus. But God forbid there was a permanent glitch and my YouTube channel disappeared completely. If I only had access to my audience here on YouTube. If it glitches and it disappears, I have no more access to you. And I can't get mad about it because I don't own this platform. Same thing with Instagram. On Instagram, I spent so many years building. Honestly, not that many years, two years building on my own audience on Instagram and then all of a sudden this past summer the algorithm changed. And the amount of people who are able to see my posts reduced dramatically. And now the amount of people I'm able to show my marketing messages to has greatly been limited because Instagram changed the algorithm, can I be mad? Now I don't own the app. It's Instagram’s app. It's YouTube's app. It is Facebook apps. They can do whatever they want with it.
But the great news is that if I have an email list, I own my list. Nobody can take my list from me. It's a database of people's email addresses who have consented to receiving my marketing messages. That's what an email list is, and I own it, you own it. And if you don't know about email lists, make sure you check out my video that I created the Best Business To Start In 2020, or I think it's called Best Way To Make Money Online In 2020. I'll put the link it in the description box, but it'll give you a good understanding of why it's so important to own your audience. Don't rent space, own it. Build that email list. Before a t- shirt business, create an email list of people who are interested in that niche because now you are building up a potential audience for you to sell your shirts to. So that when you create your shirts, you're not launching to crickets, you're launching to people who have expecting the shirt and excited about the shirt and eager for the shirt. And the way to build an email list is you create what's called a lead magnet.
This is a digital item that you give away for free in exchange for somebody's email address online. And you want that lead magnet to be aligned with whatever it is that you have identified as the niche God purposed you to serve in. And so for example, if God has purposed you to serve dog owners, and you want to create shirts that are like I love my dog or something like that, then your lead magnet probably shouldn't be teaching people how to teach their cat to the litter box, because then it's going to be cat people who bought who gets your lead magnet. And now when you're creating shot, creating shirts for people who like dogs, yeah, your email list isn't going to want that they have cats. So you want to make sure that your lead magnet is aligned with the niche that God purposed you to serve in. And if you need help doing that, get into the Godlywoodgirl School of Business. And once you've created that lead magnet, you're going to use social media in order to create content that points people to that lead magnet, whether it's YouTube videos, Instagram, Facebook groups, Twitter, Pinterest, whatever you choose as your social media platform. You want to be creating content that drives people to get your lead magnet. That's how you build an email list online.

Involve Your Audience
Once you have your email list, ask your email us what type of shirt they want, and then sell it to them using a print on demand business model. Ask your email us what kind of shirt they want, and then sell it to them using a print-on-demand business model. Now this is one of my favorite ways to teach students how to have a Christian t- shirt business because it allows you to create shirts that your audience asked you for you once you have your email list. You can send an email saying: “Hi, I am creating a brand new t- shirt for you that you can use to show off how much you love your pet. Do you want a sleeveless shirt? Do you want a long sleeve shirt? Do you want a black shirt? Do you want a white shirt? Do you want a pink shirt, a yellow shirt?” You are involving your email list in the product creation process.
Think about Kim Kardashian. She does this all the time on her Twitter feed. She'll say: “I have two different options for the perfume bottle. Do you guys like version A or version B?” And then Twitter goes crazy and lets her know which version they like best. That's when she moves forward with and now her audience feels like they were part of the process of creating that product. So now when she launches it, they're already really excited to get it. You want to use the same concept for your email list. Involve your audience in the process of creating the shirt for them. “Hey, you guys said that you wanted a long sleeve gray shirt. I have two different design ideas. This is version A this is version B which one do you prefer”? And you just keep that communication open with your email list. And once you have the final shirt, go ahead and sell it to them using a print on demand business model.
Now print on demand means that you only print and manufacture the shirt when you've made a sale right? So no money leaves your pocket until somebody has purchased the shirt from you. This allows you to launch for $0 down. Hey, this is why I'm so excited about this 2020 Christian t- shirt business plan because it allows you to start for $0 sis $0. So, what you're going to do once, your audience has decided what shirt they want, you can go ahead and choose a print on demand manufacturer, you're going to upload that design to that printer and then you're going to create a webpage and you're going to send that to your email list and say the shirt is ready. It's available for a limited time order now your email list has been part of the process of creating the shirt and then they can click the link swipe their credit card, order it online and now that print-on-demand manufacturer is going to go ahead and print that shirt and ship it directly to your customer. You don't even have to touch the inventory. How amazing is that?
