If you are writing an e-book, I am going to share with you the three biggest mistakes Christian entrepreneurs make when they are writing their first e-book online.

1st Mistake: The Book Does not solve a Clear Problem
The first mistake that new authors make is that their book does not solve a clear problem. Here is a thing with business. Every single business, like every single product, needs to be a clear solution to a clear problem. People do not spend money just to spend money. They spend money to get a solution to their problems. So, your book needs to be a clear solution to a clear problem.
I cannot tell you how many authors that I’ve worked with, who when I asked: “okay, so what is your book about,” they could not articulate the problem that their book solved. If you do not know the exact problem that the book solves, it is going to be hard to find the readers for this book. So, make sure that your book solves a clear problem.
2nd Mistake: Spending Too Much Money Getting the Book Done
Mistake number two that new authors make when writing their first book is spending too much money getting the book done.
About a year ago, I met a young woman online who had spent $5000 with a vanity publisher getting her book done. Now, a vanity publisher is somebody or a company that just helps you publish your book. They don’t help you with marketing or sales. They just help you get your book done and published. Your book is still self-published by the way. It is not published by a professional publisher. Now, you are $5,000 in the hole when your book is done with no idea how to market it. Sis, in today’s world, you do not need to spend this kind of money to self-publish a book. You can self-publish a book for $0.
There is this beautiful thing called Print-On-Demand and what this means is that you only spend money when you make money. That is how I sell my books here at Godlywood Girl. I do not have thousands of books in inventory where I ship it when someone purchases it. No sis, everything is virtual.
When somebody buys from my website, I log into my print-on-demand book manufacturer and order it from the manufacturer. They print and ship it to the customer. That’s print-on-demand, and that means you can write and self-publish your online book for $0. What you need to do is to just get the steps. You do not need a vanity publisher giving you these steps to write your book. You can get this stuff yourself.

What I would rather you do is to save that $5,000, put it in your pocket and when your e-book is done, use that 5 grand on marketing. Use it on getting out the word about this book that solves a clear problem for your audience.
3rd Mistake: Not Building an Email List
Finally, the third biggest mistake that new authors make when publishing an e-book or writing an e-book, which is honestly the biggest mistake any entrepreneur makes, is not building an email list. Now, if you have not seen my video on “The Best Business Model for 2020”, make sure you watch that video. What I say in that video is that any online business’ biggest asset is their email list.
An email list is a database of people who have told you that they want you to market products that they are interested in buying . The way to create an email list is to create a lead magnet that attracts potential readers. You give it to them for free in exchange for their email address online. And now, you have the database of people’s email address who are interested in reading the type of books you are interested in writing. So important, and one of the biggest assets you are going to have in your business as an author.
Now, a lot of online entrepreneurs will not tell you this, but the biggest way that they make money in their business is through email marketing. It is not in social media posts, it’s not in their YouTube videos, and it is not on their Facebook. It is through Email Marketing. When you are creating your book, if you do not spend time creating this email list, it will be tough to get sales on your book when you initially launch it.
Create your email list, get it up and running, and build that relationship with your audience.
